Cell Phone Interface Conversions - info

You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on an external cell phone/music interface, or depend on batteries to keep your cell phone/music interface operating, or use one of the external interface models that hang off the comm cord. If you prefer that type of interface, or need an amplified interface, we can supply it here, but there is another option. Let us convert your headset with an in-built cell phone/music interface that requires no batteries.

Frequently asked questions

What will you see on your headset?
Nothing but a single 3.5mm socket near the comm cord.

How does the cell phone or music player connect to the headset?
Simply by plugging a single lead into your music player or cellphone's headset socket and the other end of the lead into the socket we provide in your headset.

Will the cell phone/music connection interfere with the normal operation of the headset in any way?
The position of the cell phone socket in the headset does not restrict microphone boom movement, or interfere with any headset leads.

What brands can be converted?
We can convert David Clark, Avcomm, Altronics, ASA, DRE, Falcon, Flightcom, Sigtronics, Telex, Pilot, Peltor, etc.
Please note we cannot convert lightweight headsets such as Telex Airman 750, Telex Airman 850, Telex 5x5 Pro III, Telex HTW-2A Twinset, Flightcom F20, Sennheiser HME 25-KA-2, Sennheiser HMEC 25, as there is insufficient room to accomodate the interface. These lightweight headsets are generally used in quiet cockpits in aircraft where cell phone communications are either prohibited, or possible by normal use of the phone without an interface.

ANR headsets that don't already have an interface, will need an external cellphone interface.

Which cell phones will work with this interface?
We don't know of any cell phone brand that won't work with our interface. However, the standard connection requires the phone to have a 2.5mm headset socket (round socket, not milti-pin socket). The 2.5mm socket is provided on most phone brands. Some phones such as Nokia might need a different adapter. A range of adapters is available here

What if my phone doesn't have the common headset socket?
We have adapters to fit many of the phones that don't have the common 2.5mm socket. You can view our adapters here

After my headset is converted, will I still be able to use an external amplified interface, noise cancelling unit, or other external device?
Yes. This modification in no way changes the normal operation of the headset, or it's ability to operate with the normal external devices. In fact, you could use the in-built cell phone/music interface and a separate external interface with 2 different devices at the same time.

How much weight does this modification add to a headset?
The weight of the interface components installed in the headset is approximately 6 grams.

How long is the warranty?
This conversion carries a 2 year warranty.

How much does the conversion cost?
This conversion costs $95 for a standard headset, and a industry standard cell phone connection lead is included. This is considerably less than the cheapest external cell phone interface module.

How do I order this service?
To order a headset or helmet conversion, simply contact us via our 'contact us' page, or click here. Tell us what make and model of headset or helmet you have, and what conversion you are enquiring about.
